Return of Football

Filed under: Football — admin @ 4:43 pm

It’s finally here. Football season has come out of hibernation and has brought joy back into my life. OK, so maybe I’m exaggerating a little but I love this time of year! LOVE. I can lose about a day and a half watching football. Thursday night, all day Sunday and Monday night. And I don’t feel like the time has really been lost either! There’s good food, better weather and all of my boys are back in my life.

So last night I watched the Giants beat the Redskins. I have no personal feeling one way or the other about the Redskins but the Giants I love. They started off really well and it’s a good thing too because they completely lost steam in the second half. But that’s OK and do you know why? Because it was the first full game they’ve played so far this year. I don’t expect full throttle on the first game. They’ll gear up soon enough.

I didn’t get to be involved in a fantasy league this year and that is disappointing. I was invited into one at work but it was an auto draft and that didn’t appeal to me so I opted out. I now wonder if I should have participated just because but it’s just left to chance what players you get and that can make a season crap right off the bat. I would have likely had to learn about players I am not familiar with and well, learning takes effort. Katie and I discussed starting our own but that too takes effort. We’d have to recruit. Ick.

So needless to say, I will be spending this Sunday (two days before my birthday thank you very much!) on the couch watching TV. I can’t wait!!

More Things I LOVE About The NFL

Filed under: Football — admin @ 6:39 pm

1. I love it how special teams holds hands when they run. Of course this is to protect the one actually running with the ball, but it’s adorable.

2. I love it when they slap each other on the butt as a way of saying “good job”.

3. I love it that girls can wear pink to the games no matter what team you love.

4. I love it when the Quarter Back holds the ball for the field goal kick.

5. I love the pure sportsmanship of throwing someone to the ground and then extending your hand.

6. I love the man that slaps that hand away.

7. I love it that I can spend from 11:00 AM up until I go to bed on Sundays watching football.

8. I love the football commercials, the ones with the players. Even the ones with the announcers.

9. I love it that all retired players think they should be announcers even though they really aren’t that smart.

10. I love it that there’s that one big guy on every defense that does his thing then stands there huffing while the rest of the team chases the action on the field.

11. I love it that Trent Green can’t stop knocking himself unconscious.

12. I love the grace that is a well executed play.

13. I love the injured players being on the sidelines to encourage and uplift the team on the field.

14. I love seeing T.O. drop a ball.

15. I love fantasy football even though the best players often aren’t the ones you’d think.

16. I love how they clap when they break the huddle.

17. And I LOVE the way I can relate what they do on the field to what I’m taught at work. Mistakes happen, but they better not. You better bring it each and every time. Word.

My 3 Least Favorite People in the NFL

Filed under: Football — admin @ 8:36 pm

1. Chris Collinsworth

We call him “plastic”. It’s more polite than “corpse” which is what he looks like. And what’s with that floppy hair he’s sporting this year??

2. Chris Berman

Whoop! I HATE that!! The whole “he - could - go - all - the - way!!” thing is over too.

3. Women

With the excecption of Pam Oliver and Jilian Barberie. All other should be told to stop. NOW.

Moving their way up the list pushing in on the top 3??

1. John Madden

Yeah, he teaches me things. Sure, the boy loves his games but he is just downright unpleasant to look at. Did anyone see that hip thrust he did a couple of weeks ago?? I threw up a little.

2. Terrell Owens

He’s really not all that. I was done with him two years ago.

3. The ESPN Monday Night Football announcers

I don’t even want to learn their names. They are ruining Monday nights for me with all of their chatter and nonsense blathering.

What do I LOVE about football?? BEER COMMERCIALS.

Sunday is my Favorite Day

Filed under: Football — admin @ 2:23 pm

Mass text that I sent out earlier : “Who the hell is responsible for us losing Dante Hall to the Rams?!”

Responses?? 1. Satan 2. Dante Hall and Father Time 3. You are in a piss poor mood today 4. Carl Peterson (he likes ponies) 5. Dante Hall  6. Dante? Rams?  What college team is that?

Sunday is my favorite day of the week. For the most part, I’ve usually had a day off from work already and feel more relaxed than any other day. I get to go have Starbucks time with my good friend Katie. AND FOOTBALL IS ON ALL DAY. I don’t get to watch Favre play today which I would like to have seen. He’s an American hero. I am watching however, the Dallas/St. Louis game and it is quite entertaining. James Hetfield may be losing me to Tony Romo. (I’m just saying it for the ratings James, don’t worry. I’m yours forever.) Next up, Chiefs v Chargers. We better win this one or I will get cranky. Chargers have sucked so far this year. This one should be a gimme but we’ll see. Chiefs aren’t playing like pros this year either.

Tonight, Eagles v Giants. What a good game that one will be!! That’s the one I’m really looking forward to. Love the Giants. They have the most players that we like to yell about. Osi Umenyiora (yell out the whole name), Jeremy Shockey (SHOCKEY!!), Kawika Mitchell (KAWIKA!!), Plaxico Burress (PLAXICO!!), Amani Toomer (’it’s not a tumor’ but only if you’re going to try to say it like Arnold) and last but most certainly not least, Michael Strahan (wooooohoo Michael Strahan!!). Of course, I am an Eagles fan as well. So this one is going to be another tough one as far as choosing who should win. I was so glad when they got rid of Terrell Owens. That boy didn’t deserve to stay. I think very highly of Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb is a rock star. They also have David Akers, one of my favorite kickers.

So yeah, I’m going to be stressing a bit by this evening but such is life on Sunday. Now if only I could get some cold weather with my football…..

Football Has Finally Come Back Into My Life

Filed under: Football — admin @ 7:03 am

So the joys and stresses of football season are finally back and I couldn’t be more thrilled. You just never quite realize how much you miss John Madden until you watch a game and hear him mumbling and guffawing and adding little known tidbits all the way through a game and hearing poor Al Michaels trying to make whatever John said, translate back into what’s happening on the field.

Last nights game had me torn. First of all, I was completely unawares that it was even taking place. I’ve had my mind set on the first Chiefs game (which just so happens to fall on my birthday this year, yeah baby!!) that I didn’t bother to see when the season actually started. And my loyalties are immediately tested when I see that the two teams playing are the Saints and the Colts. Granted, I am a girl and therefore my reasons for loving and hating both teams are not what some may call conventional, but I’ve rarely been one to conform so I shall lay out my reasons for you anyway!!

Pros and Cons for the Saints:

  • I love Reggie Bush
  • I think very highly of Coach Sean Payton
  • They have Scott Fujita!! (I’ve been a fan of his since he was in KC. Every time the announcers say his name, you must shout “Fujita” at the TV and drink.)
  • I respect them solely based on their name, how can you not love the “Saints”??
  • They stayed true to New Orleans in tough times and that speaks volumes
  • I can’t stand Drew Brees. If you saw the game, you need no further explanation but my distaste for him has been brewing for a few years now.

Pros and Cons for the Colts:

  • LOVE Coach Tony Dungee. He seems like such a quality man and he’s tight buddies with our very own Coach Herm Edwards so there’s got to be something good with him right??
  • I like Peyton Manning, but I’m getting a little tired of him. He damn near won me back though when in the end-of-the-game interview (with a very short woman who has no business being on the field so don’t even get me started) he said “Go Giants!”.
  • I’m a fan of Marvin Harrison but then again, who isn’t

So ultimately and after much discussion I settled on cheering for the Saints. Fat lot of good that did me. Get rid of Drew Brees already!! When are they going to realize how much better things will be when they let me run things??
